Modern Stair Remodel with Oak Handrail and Wrought Iron Balusters

This modern stair remodel turned an outdated carpeted staircase into a striking wooden feature that brings modern elegance and durability to the home. The original carpet was worn and visually disconnected from the rest of the home's finishes — and carpeted stairs are harder to keep clean, prone to wear, and difficult to refresh. Replacing the carpet with solid wood steps solved all three problems at once.

We removed the original carpet and underlay, prepared the existing stair structure, and installed new solid wood treads and risers across the full staircase. Each step was finished to a consistent tone and protected with multiple coats of clear coat for lasting durability against daily traffic. A new oak handrail was installed along with black iron pickets — a classic modern pairing that frames the wooden steps with a clean precision line.

The finished staircase is a stunning centrepiece for the home: solid wood underfoot, durable enough for years of daily use, and visually striking against the surrounding finishes. The wrought iron pickets add a contemporary edge without overpowering the wood, and the entire staircase now reads as part of a planned modern interior rather than a leftover from an earlier era.
