Brampton renovation: from 1960s Bramalea to 2010s Mount Pleasant

Brampton has two very different housing stocks. Bramalea and the older streets around downtown were built from the 1950s to the 1970s — semis and detached homes with smaller kitchens, one main bathroom, and basements with low ceilings. Springdale, Castlemore, Fletcher's Meadow, and Mount Pleasant are 1990s to 2010s subdivisions with larger floor plans and builder finishes now due for replacement. Brampton is next door to Mississauga, 20 to 35 minutes from our shop, with no travel surcharge.

Home Renovation questions - Brampton

How much does a home renovation cost in Brampton?
Whole-home renovations are quoted at $80–$150/sq. ft.. Inside that, a kitchen typically runs $25,000–$50,000 and a bathroom $12,000–$20,000. Structural work, such as a beam for an open concept, and second units are priced as separate lines so you can see what each decision costs.
How long does a home renovation take in Brampton?
A kitchen takes three to five weeks and a bathroom two to four. A whole-home renovation runs eight to fourteen weeks of construction depending on size and scope. Where walls or plumbing move, City of Brampton Building Division permit review adds time up front, which we include in the schedule.
Do I need a building permit in Brampton?
Yes when a wall is removed or moved, plumbing is relocated or added, new electrical circuits go in, or a basement is finished with a bathroom or a separate unit. Like-for-like replacements in the same positions usually do not need a building permit, though electrical work still goes through ESA. We prepare drawings, file with City of Brampton Building Division, and book every inspection.
Do I need to register a basement unit in Brampton?
Yes. Brampton requires a building permit for a new additional residential unit and also requires the unit to be registered with the City. We handle the permit drawings and inspections; registration is completed once the unit passes its final inspection. Check the City of Brampton's current requirements for your address, since they are updated from time to time.
Can you renovate a Bramalea semi without touching the neighbour's side?
Yes. On a semi, the party wall stays as it is and we work entirely on your side, with dust protection on the shared wall and quieter hours where the attached neighbour asks for them. Plumbing and electrical in the party wall are traced before anything is opened.
