A Scarborough bungalow kitchen is one room at the back. That is the whole problem.

Scarborough between the 1950s and the 1970s is brick bungalows, side-splits, and back-splits. The kitchen is small, at the back, and walled off from the living room. Birch Cliff and Guildwood sit on larger lots, so an island is often possible once the wall is opened. Wexford bungalows are tighter. Permits go through Toronto Building, same as the rest of the city. We are 45 to 60 minutes from the shop on the 401, and we plan start times around that drive. No separate travel fee.

Scarborough neighbourhoods and what we find there

  • Kitchen Renovation in Birch Cliff & Cliffside

Older bungalows near the Bluffs. Kitchens opened toward the back yard, with a beam when the rear wall is load-bearing.

  • Kitchen Renovation in Guildwood

Mid-century bungalows and side-splits on wide lots. Room for an island after the closed kitchen comes down.

  • Kitchen Renovation in Wexford

1950s brick bungalows. One small kitchen, often still the original footprint. A full cabinet rebuild fits; a large island often does not.

  • Kitchen Renovation in Agincourt & Highland Creek

1960s to 1980s detached homes and back-splits. Builder oak and laminate counters are what we strip out.

Kitchen Renovation questions - Scarborough

How much does a kitchen renovation cost in Scarborough?
A kitchen renovation in Scarborough runs $25,000–$50,000. A cabinet-and-counter refresh in the existing footprint starts around $18,000. A full rebuild that moves the sink and needs a permit lands at the top of that range. Projects above $50,000 are typically beyond our usual scope. Opening a load-bearing wall is a separate line, usually $15,000–$35,000.
How long does a kitchen renovation take in Scarborough?
A cabinet-and-counter refresh takes 2–3 weeks. A full rebuild in the same footprint takes 3–4 weeks, and a layout change that moves the sink takes 4–5 weeks. When plumbing or a wall moves, Toronto Building (Scarborough district) permit review adds time before demolition, and we put that in the schedule.
Do I need a building permit in Scarborough?
Yes when a wall is removed or moved, plumbing is relocated or added, new electrical circuits go in, or a basement is finished with a bathroom or a separate unit. Like-for-like replacements in the same positions usually do not need a building permit, though electrical work still goes through ESA. We prepare drawings, file with Toronto Building (Scarborough district), and book every inspection.
Do you charge extra to work in Scarborough?
Scarborough is 45 to 60 minutes from our Mississauga shop via the 401. Where we call the area regular, there is no travel surcharge. Where we quote case by case, the commute is a line inside the proposal, not a fee added after you sign.
Will a Scarborough bungalow kitchen need a new panel?
Often. A 1950s or 1960s panel with no spare breaker cannot take a new oven circuit, dishwasher, and pot lights together. We check the panel on the first visit and put an upgrade in the quote when it is required, instead of discovering it after demolition.
