Toronto Small Basement Remodel with Vinyl Flooring
About this Toronto small basement remodel with vinyl flooring
This Toronto small basement remodel turned a tight, dated lower level into a brighter, easier-to-maintain living space without changing the footprint. The original laminate had cupped at the seams and the concrete sub-floor beneath was uneven, so the renovation focused on durable, water-resistant flooring that could carry continuously from the basement floor up the staircase for a unified look.
Our team removed the worn laminate and underlay, vacuumed and inspected the concrete slab, and levelled low spots with a self-levelling compound to give the new floor a flat, stable base. We then installed waterproof vinyl plank across the basement and up the staircase — running the same plank on both surfaces visually ties the space together and removes the broken seam where a flooring change would normally land. Stair nosings were trimmed in matching material so each step reads as part of one continuous run.
The result is a basement that feels larger and more polished than its square footage suggests. The vinyl plank is dimensionally stable, easy to clean, and forgiving against the kind of moisture and temperature swings that come with below-grade rooms in older Toronto homes. Combined with refreshed baseboards and a thorough final clean, the basement now functions as a comfortable secondary living area instead of a forgotten utility space.
